  1. Per data from a National Health Interview Survey and the CDC (US Centers for Disease Control) as published in the ‘Prime Numbers’ column of the 2012 December 3 print edition of the Christian Science Monitor, 17% of Americans under age 65 did not have health insurance in 2011, and among the uninsured, 9 million have never had health insurance. The health care reform rolling out in the US will address this gap in coverage for citizens (and for legal residents?); the reform will not (directly) provide more healthcare services. (In other words, many people will have more access to more timely healthcare instead of relying on treatment in the emergency room. This preventative medicine should reduce healthcare costs, improve productivity, and increase life expectancy.)
