ISP: Frontier. Cellphone: Verizon. Tech support: home office computers administered by office IT staffs.

Internet fiber from Frontier runs through the side wall of Katy’s garage and then into the ONT (the box labeled “Verizon”) mounted inside the garage to the left of the side door. In the ONT the fiber is connected to the house wiring (MoCA – coax). (The ONT was installed by Verizon prior to Frontier’s purchase of Verizon’s FL business.) An Ethernet cable runs from the ONT to an Arris NVG468MQ router (the “primary router”). There are three Arris AM525 routers (“secondary routers”) bridging coax to Ethernet. The secondary routers are in Rob’s home office, [location tbd], and the family room. Katy’s home office has an Ethernet cable running through the side wall to outside the house down to the garage?

All four routers have been provided by Frontier (at no extra charge). Arris NVG468MQ user’s manual. Arris AM525 user’s manual. More manuals: Arris NVG468MQ Quick Start, Frontier Help. The factory settings for each of the Arris routers includes a 2.4GHz SSID and a 5GHz SSID, a WPA2/AES password, a MAC address, and an admin password (aka device access code). These settings are on a sticker on each router. Arris Bridge Mode enable / disable.

The (wireless) SSID and password can be changed on the primary router using the MyFrontier app. The SSID and password and other settings for any of the four routers may also be changed via a browser window on a computer connected via Ethernet to the home network. (For example, in a browser window on the family room computer, go to 192.168.254.254, login, then navigate to the Wireless settings.)

Frontier

Frontier’s Internet service includes an Arris router at no extra charge (no router rental fee). If Eero wifi extenders are in use, then the Frontier router wifi should either be turned off or set to a different SSID (and channel??). The replacement Arris router sent by Frontier (with the initial two Eero Pro 6E devices) was pre-set with 2.4GHz and 5GHz wifi turned off.

Verizon’s acquisition of Frontier should close in 2026, at which point Verizon will shift Frontier customers to Verizon plans. Frontier acquired Verizon assets in Florida in 2016.

Best routers to replace Frontier-provided Arris router. Frontier does not charge a router rental fee.

Eero

Cnet eero review. Eero devices extend WiFi service by creating a mesh (all of the devices (mesh nodes) operate on the same channel and SSID). How to install Eero devices in an existing Frontier network. Failed Eero installation consisted of one Eero node installed upstream of the primary router, and another installed first in the entry hall and then off of an Ethernet connection (bridged to coax) in Rob’s office. Congruent with the Eero installation, other WiFi SSIDs (WiFi support on the primary router, AP mode on the family room router, and the two TP-Links) were turned off.

Frontier charges $10 / month for the initial two Eero extenders plus $5 / month for each additional Eero extender. In September 2025 a three-pack of Eero Pro 6E devices cost $550; a three-pack of Eero 6+ devices cost $300.

TP-Link

A TP-Link WiFi extender is plugged into an outlet and then WiFi or Ethernet connected to downstream devices.
