The Frontier SSID and password can be changed using the MyFrontier app or a computer connected via Ethernet to the Arris router. (In a browser window on the computer, go to 192.168.254.254. Then navigate to the Wireless settings.)

  • 2025 Oct 22: called to cancel Whole-Home Wi-Fi (Eero), $10 / month, obtained and used QR return code at UPS Store. After Oct 28 call Frontier to unbundle service to remove all but the 500/500 Internet. Current bundle is $146.40 / month, including $6 for Wi-Fi Extender service. Frontier agent (erroneously) confirmed that “Line from ISP is Ethernet”.
  • 2025 September 7: confirmed that wifi is turned off on the Arris router.
  • 2025 August 16: MDG changed SSID and password on the TP-Link providing wifi access for gaming computer.
  • 2025 August 14 configuration: Frontier connectivity enters into the car garage and connects to Ethernet port on new Frontier-supplied Eero Pro 6E device, Ethernet connection from the Eero to a new Frontier-supplied Arris router (co-located in the garage), Ethernet runs to Rob and Katy’s home offices, Eero device at the base of the stairs, and a TP-Link wifi extender in MDG’s room. Old extender in the family room has been unplugged. (PEG swapped old router for new supplied by Frontier (to address connectivity disruptions) along with two Eero wifi mesh nodes and then changed SSID and passwords on various computers and phones.)
  • 2025 August 13 configuration: old Frontier-supplied Arris router in the car garage, Ethernet runs to Rob and Katy’s home offices, and a TP-Link wifi extenders at the base of the stairs and in MDG’s room (the latter Ethernet connected to David’s computer). Also an extender in the family room?

Frontier

Frontier’s Internet service includes an Arris router at no extra charge (no router rental fee). If Eero wifi extenders are in use, then the Frontier router wifi should either be turned off or set to a different SSID (and channel??). The replacement Arris router sent by Frontier (with the initial two Eero Pro 6E devices) was pre-set with 2.4GHz and 5GHz wifi turned off.

Verizon’s acquisition of Frontier should close in 2026, at which point Verizon will shift Frontier customers to Verizon plans. Frontier acquired Verizon assets in Florida in 2016.

Best routers to replace Frontier-provided Arris router. Frontier does not charge a router rental fee.

The Frontier-provided Arris AM525 router (user’s manual) in the family room bridged pre-existing coax wiring with Ethernet and also extended the WiFi (in access point (AP) mode). Congruent with the Eero installation, the WiFi LAN via coax (MoCA) The router Guide to coax and Ethernet LANs. There are also AM525 routers in Rob’s home office and in Katy’s home office (?).

Eero

Frontier charges $10 / month for the initial two Eero extenders plus $5 / month for each additional Eero extender. In September 2025 a three-pack of Eero Pro 6E devices cost $550; a three-pack of Eero 6+ devices cost $300.

TP-Link

A TP-Link WiFi extender is plugged into an outlet and then WiFi or Ethernet connected to downstream devices.
