The trouble with socialists

Is America becoming a ‘socialist state’? 40 percent say yes. – CSMonitor.com. – 2012 July 30

Setting aside whether or not health care reform should be equated with socialism, why do so many Americans have issues with the word socialism?  Maybe it’s because those same people (mistakenly) believe that America is capitalist society (when the economy is healthy), and that socialism equates to the opposite (an unhealthy economy).  This contrasts sharply with the recent studies that when asked about income distribution, Americans – Democrats and Republicans alike – would distribute income far more equally than is done currently in our economy.
